about
Jon’s Mom, Mary Louise (pictured), died of a swift, massive heart attack in the Fall of 2011. Jon was in Sweden and couldn’t get back in time to be by her side, when she passed, but he did get to write this song for her, which he played for the family when her ashes were dropped on his brother Eric’s land in Cazadero, California in the Spring of 2012. She was well loved and is dearly missed. It's clear that she knew that the ability to love and give were the essential hallmarks of a life well-lived.
One of Mary Louise's favorite composers was Beethoven, hence the play on words for the song's title, which is darn close to Beethoven's Für Elise.
lyrics
FOR LOUISE
(Strider)
We gather today in the Cazadero
In the Springtime that she decreed
Grey squirrels dance in the manzanita
To celebrate Mary Louise
For Louise the bright light who shines for all
Like a big fireball in the sky
When you walk these canyons with the Redwoods tall
I’ll bet you’ll hear on the breeze
The Song of Mary Louise
Some call her Mom, some call her Grandma
Others call her auntie or a wife
She had great, great Friends
And great Great grandchildren
And she loved them with all of her might
For Louise the bright light who shines for all
Like a big fireball in the sky
When you walk these canyons with the Redwoods tall
I’ll bet you’ll hear on the breeze
The Song of Mary Louise
<Violin solo by Candy Girard>
And I’m sure tears will follow the ashes that fall
On this Sacred ground where we stand
Can you hear her calling?
Lifting us up
To the place she wants us to be
That’s the song of Mary Louise
In our hearts forever to be
The Song of Mary Louise
