about

My favorite song on the album. I think it really stands up to the test of time. (27 years and counting....) No More Heroes was started in San Rafael around 1982 or so, triggered by several relationship snaps, and then finished in L.A., after I’d moved there in 1986.

lyrics

NO MORE HEROES
(Strider)
Through the wires the sun went cold
In a monotone
Someone crucial
Leaving on the other end

I had followed every word she said
Like a mantra in my head
Now it’s broken, difficult to believe

No More Heroes
No one’s gonna sweat and bleed for you
No More Heroes
No one’s gonna save yourself from you

In the mirror I was short and small
In her reflection strong and tall
A grand illusion I better learn to live without

She was my voice when I could not sing
I gave her control of everything
Now she’s taken everything away from me

No More Heroes
No one’s gonna sweat and bleed for you
No More Heroes
Throught the tears I think you’ll see the truth

(Background chorus chant)*:
I can take it, does it last all night?
Will the morning come and make it right?
When it’s over will I ever see, another woman with a hold on me?
I can take it, does it last all night?
Will the morning come and make it right?
When it’s over will I ever know where the feeling and the faithful go?

So many years have flown
I was just dreaming
Now it’s falling down, falling down
Falling down, falling down
Oh_____

No More Heroes ...(*background chorus chant throughout)
No one’s gonna sweat and bleed for you
No More Heroes
No one’s gonna free yourself from you
No More Heroes All the sweat and blood belongs to you
No More Heroes
No one’s going to feel your pain for you
No More Heroes
Save yourself it’s all that you can do
No More Heroes
